Compression Springs

Conical, hourglass and barrel-shaped springs are often specified where the large end is meant to work in a bore and the small end is meant to work over a rod. These types of springs offer the advantage of a reduced solid height compared to straight compression springs.

Torsion Springs

Torsion springs, whose ends are rotated in angular deflection, offer resistance to externally applied torque. The wire itself is subjected to bending stresses rather than torsional stresses, as might be expected from the name. Springs of this type are usually close wound, reduce in coil diameter, and increase in body length as they are deflected.
Special types of torsion springs include double torsion springs, heavy duty torsion springs, and springs having a space between the coils to minimize friction.
Type of Ends: The type of ends on torsion springs should be carefully considered. While there is a good deal of flexibility in specifying special ends and end forming, the cost may be increased and a tool charge incurred.
Heavy Duty Torsion Spring Installation: The type of ends and installation affect spring load and deflection as shown in Figure 1. All heavy duty torsion springs have three or more points of contact with at least two at the ends and one at the arbor.

Wire Forms

General Wire Spring is capable of forming round and shaped wire up to .500”. They can do short prototype quantities or longer production quantities on custom wire forms. There are endless wire configurations that we are capable of doing. Usually a sample or a blue print is all they need to produce the wire form parts for you; otherwise our design team can work with you to spec out the part.
General Wire spring has created and designed custom wire forms for various applications including nuclear submarines, drain cleaning equipment, hand tools, electrical industry tooling, hose clamp wire form and elevator wire form. Wire Forms are in a variety of shapes as well including round, square, flat and rectangular amongst others. Wire forms and custom springs are offfered in a variety of materials.
